When you put your hand up to become a soccer coach you are taking on a huge responsibility. Along with that responsibility comes accountability. It does not matter at what level we are coaching, the responsibilities and accountabilities are the same.
A number of families involved with the county’s youth soccer community have united to defend a soccer coach who was accused last week of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl while attending a soccer camp.

Anyone who thinks that women’s soccer is a new idea couldn’t be more wrong. Women have been playing the sport for as long as it has existed. Long before Premiership leagues and cup contests were formed, women were thought to have played the sport in some of the most ancient of civilizations.

Australian soccer witnessed another showpiece game last night as the Central Coast Mariners powered into the Hyundai A-League 2008 Grand Final after defeating the Newcastle Jets at Gosford, 3-0. Starting the game with a two goal deficit after the first round, they needed at least two goals to force the game into extra time to give them any chance of being the first team into the Grand Final to be played at Sydney in two weeks time.

After a very tense weekend, the final four teams have been decided in the Hyundai Australian A-League season with the Central Coast Mariners finishing first, followed by Newcastle Jets, Sydney FC and Queensland Roar. It all came down to goal difference and Football Federation Australia could not have scripted a better finish to the season.
By winning the Minor Premiership, the Mariners have officially qualified for the 2009 edition of the AFC Champions League, the most prestigious club competition in Asia. Has the Central Coast Mariners been the best team all year and deserve to finish on top of the A League ladder and earn the right to compete in Asia in 2009?

This will be a totally unbiased account of the recent Australian soccer ‘A’ League fixture between Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners. Well maybe a little biased, you have to forgive me at the outset, I am a very one-sided Mariners fan. The game was played at our home ground, sorry, I mean at the Mariners home ground on the Central Coast of NSW. To say this game had everything would be an understatement, 2 send-offs, 9 goals with 9 different scorers, 2 penalties and the match decided in the 93rd minute. Some saying, the greatest A-League game ever and a great advertisement for Australian soccer.
