Number 1 skill for volunteer coaching – extreme tolerance – the ability to put up with a lot of noise and nonsense from dysfunctional, spoiled PARENTS, other coaches (even sometimes your own assistance coaches) that may be egomanicial fools. having to deal with severly troubled and problem kids with issues parents do not disclose making him unteachablke or even uncontrollable to the point of making other kids miserable, has issues that even school systems will not handle or allow. Taking endless flack from the boards of these clubs who put way too much of the club upkeep on the coaches and expect the coaches to manage problem parents rather than allow the coaches to focus on just coaching and training. Sure you all want in?
