Did David Beckham Score in Australia – While Posh was in LA? »
By Muz on Nov 27, 2007 in News
LA Galaxy recently traveled to Sydney Australia to play in the Hyundai Club Challenge. The Galaxy played Sydney FC tonight at the Sydney Olympic Stadium in front of 80,000 people. I would estimate probably 75,000 of those were there to watch [tag-tec]David Beckham[/tag-tec]. Did the game live up to all the hype and were the crowd entertained? Did [tag-tec]David Beckham[/tag-tec] last the full 90 minutes and did he score?
Living in Australia, there is not a lot of opportunity to see the [tag-tec]soccer[/tag-tec] superstars play live. No matter what your thoughts are of David Beckham, he certainly has marketing power. Beckham arrived in Sydney last Saturday in his private jet and the star struck [tag-tec]soccer[/tag-tec] fans packed out the Sydney Olympic stadium tonight to watch one of the sports superstars. Before the game, he said he was determined to play the full 90 minutes and he did. Obviously [tag-tec]David Beckham[/tag-tec] has not had a lot of game time this year with the Galaxy due to a knee injury, however he lasted the game, played well in patches and scored one of his signature goals, a free kick outside the 18 yard box, placed into the top right corner of the net. It was worth the cost of admission just to see the master of dead ball kicking score.
Sydney FC won the game 5-3. LA Galaxy were down 3-0 in the first half until Beckham scored in the 44th min to make it 3-1. From a technical viewpoint and looking at it from a soccer coaching perspective, all I can say was that is was entertaining for the crowd. I enjoyed the experience.
Sydney FC is half way through their National League competition and it was obvious that LA Galaxy was in their off season as conditioning started to take its toll on the Galaxy players towards the end of the game.
It was David Beckham’s first visit to Australia and he conducted himself in a totally professional manner throughout his stay. The David Beckham show moves on to New Zealand next week to play Wellington and hopefully his fitness will continue to improve and he is able to play a greater part in LA Galaxy’s performances next year.
Yes, [tag-tec]David Beckham[/tag-tec] did score while Posh was in LA, as she remained home to rehearse for the upcoming Spice Girls reunion tour starting in Vancouver on December 2 and no, I’m not going to comment on that tour, not in this post anyway!
